What Is a Ductless HVAC System?

Ductless air conditioning and heating systems do not require an elaborate and difficult to install duct system, and this makes them cheaper and easier to install for a number of different applications. Chances are that you’ve actually seen one of these systems at some point in your past—they’re usually a large white box mounted somewhere high on a wall in a room that blasts out cold air when turned on. Ductless systems are actually fully-functioning air conditioners that are contained within a single unit, or two units in the case of mini-split systems. The term mini-split refers to the compressor and evaporator coils being separated rather than inside the same housing.

Ductless HVAC units are ideal for:

  • Garages
  • Workshops
  • Pool houses
  • Basements
  • Offices
  • Storage units
  • Mobile or manufactured homes

Mini split systems are becoming extremely popular because they can be installed in a number of different areas with very little effort or upfront expense. Mini-split systems generally require a hole no larger than a couple of inches to be drilled in your wall in order to feed refrigerant and electrical lines to the outdoor unit. The outdoor unit can also be mounted either on the ground outside or sometimes even to a wall itself.

Since we had used Simmons Heating and Cooling during the February winter storm and were very pleased with their service, I gave them a call.

We Are Ready to Help!

While a single ductless unit can’t cool an entire home, they can quickly and efficiently control conditions in a limited space. Combining several different ductless units can create whole-home coverage with zoning capability, and do so for even less than the cost of installing central cooling.
